Mary Redd had a purple velvet photo album that was passed down in the family. Some of the photos are well known to family members, a few had writing on the reverse side with some identification, but most did not. It is a puzzle to try to figure this out from the clues that exist.
The first photo in the collection is this photo is this couple. On the reverse side is the logo of the photographer, Joseph Farabaugh, Carrolltown, PA. It is labeled as item 1722 1/2. Further research shows that the studio in Carrolltown was open from 1885 to 1889, after which the studio was moved to Loretto, PA. Carrolltown, PA is in Cambria County, not far from Cambria City and Loretto where Mary's 2nd great grandfather, Charles Bradley, had lived. Farabaugh's wife was a granddaughter of Charles (Jr.) and Catherine (nee McGuire) Bradley. Information on Farabaugh found at this website: http://www.farabaugh.org/tree/ps34/ps34_012.htm indicates that Farabaugh photographed most of the people in the surrounding area.
Looking at the tree for Mary's relatives who would have been about this age between 1885 and 1889:
- Mary (nee Redd) Kelly (1826-1889) and her husband Cornelius Kelly (1814-1896)
- Mary Ann (nee Little) Fry (1821-1898) and her husband Sebastian Fry (1821-1895)
- John C. Bradley (1829-1918) and his wife Mary Ellen (nee Eckenrode) Bradley (1836-1921)
- Ellen (nee Bradley) Conrad (1840-1907) and husband Anthony J. Conrad (1830-1893)
- Several other grandchildren of Charles Bradley (1750-1826)
There is another photo also take by Farabaugh in Carrolltown, this one of a young lady. The number on her photo is 821, so it seems to be a little earlier than the couple. In 1885, Mary Jane Redd (aka Aunt Jane) would have been 24 years old. This could possibly be her. Her half-sister, Annie Gallagher, would have been 32 years old. There are also numerous Bradley/Little/Fry/etc. cousins who fit the timeframe.
