In the second, revised edition of his study on Helleringen (172 pages), Albert Girardin has this to say (in German) about the Huguenot family Grosjean in Helleringen: "4. Grosjean. The Grosjeans are a family from <Western> Lothringen/Lorraine, which had first resettled in Lixheim. Their original name was Laramée. In the church records of Lixheim and n the deeds of 1685 they are listed as "Laramée dit Grosjean. The most important member of this family was Abraham Grosjean, born 1656, married to Maria Magdalena Wittersheim, living from 1685 on in Kirberg. For many years he served as mayor of the village and following the return of the counts of Nassau in 1698 also as leader of the <Reformed> church community. One of his sons, Johann David, married Judith Vautrin, the daughter of Helleringen's miller, and he moved to Helleringen. His son Johann Peter married Christine Gassert in 1743. The male line of Grosjeans died out in Helleringen in the 19th century" <Albert Girardin, Helleringen im ehemaligen Fürstentum Lixheim. Beiträge zur Geschichte eines lothringischen Dorfes und einer lothringischen Landschaft im deutsch-französischen Grenzraum (Bad Neustadt an der Saale, Verlag Dietrich Pfaehler 1983) page 111. Girardin has a section in this work on the vautrin family as well. His study on Kirberg contains more extensive and more detailed information on the Grosjean family, especially Abraham and his uncle Franz. |
